Day 1 - Frankfurt/Heidelberg

We are here in Deutschland! And the trip has been going great so far. Havalah has been an absolute dream. She slept a lot on the plane, and played in the bulkhead area where our seats were. We picked up our car in Frankfurt. It’s a nice Seat TDI wagon (like a Passat). My favorite part of Germany, the autobahn, has begun, and the speeds are glorious. We started by driving along the Rheine River from Koblenz to Bingen, and we stopped in St. Goar. The views of the towns and vineyards and trains and barges along the river are spectacular.

Next we continued on to Heidelberg for our first overnight (not counting the one spent on the plane). We got to see a bit of the walkplatz, and we’ll tour the castle tomorrow. Needless to say, we are all extremely exhausted after being up for two straight days. I am impressed that the girls did so well at keeping their eyes open until true bedtime. I can be a bit of a slave driver when it comes to jetlag remedies, and they definitely held up their end. So tomorrow will start with a great breakfast and then on to our first true day of vacation!
